About me

I am a marine biologist (University of Bogotá Jorge Tadeo Lozano) born and raised in Colombia. From an early point in my career, I developed an interest in studying cetaceans. I moved to Spain and during my MSc in Biodiversity: Conservation and Evolution (University of Valencia) I was introduced to the wonderful world of parasites by my colleagues and mentors at the Marine Zoology Unit. After finishing my PhD I did my first post-doc at the Life Sciences Department of the Natural History Museum, London, where I learned how to explore high-throughput sequencing data into a phylogenetic context for studying species systematics and evolution.

The use of a wide range of morphological, molecular and statistical methods has prepared me to assess parasite distribution and speciation. I am currently a post-doctoral researcher at AZTI (Sukarrieta, Bizkaia) studying the marine environment through new molecular approaches such as environmental DNA.
